Drama Competition

A State Youth Drama Competition was organized this year at Sutland Hall, Kolkata. Seven theatre groups participated in the competition.

Among them, Birbhum Sanskriti Bahini of Labhpur secured Second Place with its production “Naginikanyar Kahini” (The Story of the Serpent Maiden).

The play was written and directed by Ujjal Mukhopadhyay and was produced by Naginikanya Bahini.

In the competition, Abha Ghosh, who played the role of the Serpent Maiden, received the award for Best Actress. A student of Birbhum, she impressed the judges with her outstanding performance. Previously, she had also been recognized as Best Actress at various drama festivals and competitions held across Birbhum, Kolkata, and neighboring states.

During the past year, the production had been staged in several locations across Birbhum and Kolkata and received enthusiastic appreciation from audiences.

In addition to this achievement, another play directed by Ujjal Mukhopadhyay, “Chal Ekla” (Walk Alone), also won Second Place in a separate theatre competition.

The report further notes that in Rabindranath Tagore’s “Satya”, “Desh Paoa”, and the two-act play “Abasheshe”, Ujjal Mukhopadhyay had previously earned recognition and awards for Best Acting.
