ABOUT US
BIRBHUM SANSKRITI BAHINI has been engaged in theatrical activities for twenty-seven years in a village named Labpur in the Birbhum district of Bengal region of India. The mainstay of Sanskriti Bahini’s plays is folk culture. Birbhum Sanskriti bahini has its own stage in Labpur, and an 8.12-acre theatre village, “GURUKUL NATYA ASHRAM” has been created where theatre artists cultivate crops, practice theatre, and simultaneously secure their livelihoods.
Birbhum Sanskriti Bahini has its own school called “Gurukul Adarsha Vidyapith,” where children are taught not only academics but also cultural and aesthetic aspects. Additionally, there is a theatre school (NATYA VIDYALAYA) of our own that offers a one-year certificate course in theatre, approved by BHARATIYA VIDYA BHAVAN. The number of theatre artists in Sanskriti Bahini is around fifty.
In 2023, the group has staged “BEHULA LAKHINDAR PALA” in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India, and received the “TRANSOCEANA WORLD RECORD” for the maximum number of live human puppet shows, marking our first international recognition. In 2024, “BEHULA LAKHINDAR PALA” was selected as the sole play from INDIA among the eight countries to be staged in Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theatre (CIFET) at Cairo, Egypt. In 2025, the above play has created another WORLD RECORD by staging it for the 500th time.
One of our significant plays is “DHARMAMANGAL,” which is performed by 60 artists and incorporates almost all folk forms of the Bengal region. Other plays such as “DASH AVATAR” “AKHRAIYER DIGHI“, “BOGLO BAYEN“, “KRISHNALEELA” etc. have been staged at various venues across India. We have two historical dramas one is based on Mahatma Gandhi ji’s life, called “GANDHI-MAHATMA-BAPU” and the other is about the freedom fight of “Azad Hind Bahini” founded by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, named “SUKHNO FULER MALA“.
